Hi banekrayt,

a) Which Operating System do you have?

By default the drivers will be placed and software

in C:Program FilesPs3 driver for mac

Restart Windows – when it starts to boot up again, hit F8 just after the BIOS does its POST. Select “Disable driver signature enforcement” - this is very important!

Update: You can permanently disable driver signature enforcement from within Windows. Run a Command window (cmd.exe) as administrator, and enter the following:

  • bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
  • bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON

Doing this prevents you from having to reboot when installing and using these drivers. Ati mobility radeon hd 5650 1gb driver for mac. It will add a “Test Mode” logo on the bottom right of desktop, to remind you that driver signature enforcement is permanently disabled.

From the Start button, run the “Install USB driver” under the “MotioninJoy” folder for the appropriate connection method you’ll be using. Make sure to right click and “Run as administrator” or the driver will not install properly.

(Right click, then click “Run as Administrator)

After the driver installs, a Notepad window will pop up, showing you the driver install log. This is what a successful install looks like, on Windows 7 x64:

Restart Windows again.

At this point, the center light on your controller should not be blinking. This is a good indication that it is working.

Now run the “DS3 Tool” program from the Start button. If you followed the directions properly, the main screen should look like this

Note that the controller is listed at the top. If it doesn’t show up, then you did something wrong. The first thing you should probably do is re-run the “Install USB Drivers” as admin, making sure no error messages pop up.

You can now run the controller with whatever features you wish. I’m not sure if there is a reason not to enable all functionality. Perhaps Performance could be an issue, so only enable the features you need.

If you followed the guide correctly, you should see your controller listed, and have full control of all the inputs. On my first attempt, I neglected to “Run as administrator” so I only saw the controller listed, but had no contol over it.

If you see that dialog, you did it wrong, and the driver did not install . Make sure to hit F8 when you boot Windows, or set it to Test Mode using the commands listed above, and make sure you Run the USB Driver Install as Administrator!

Finally, we have a decent gamepad to use in Windows, including 64-bit. Enjoy! Thanks to the folks at MotionInJoy for creating this driver.

*Note* Keep in mind that installing unsigned drivers is considered by Microsoft

to be a major security issue (or a major source of income, depending on who you listen to), so to use these drivers on a 64-bit OS, you will need to use F8 to boot every time. There are ways to permanently disable signed drivers in 64-bit Windows, but it is considered a major security flaw to do so, and is a major hassle to set up (and is constantly being patched by Microsoft). This will be the case with any unofficial driver release, not just these ones.

*Another Note* If you are having troubles getting the drivers to work after rebooting, even after using “F8″, try running the driver install script again . These drivers aren’t perfect, and can be a bit finicky, but they do work. And I think they are the only ones that work in 64-bit. 32-bit users might prefer to use the old drivers we talked about, if you do not need to use bluetooth .

Gaming on the Mac can be a rewarding experience, but there aren’t a great deal of Mac game controllers available (especially that you know you can rely on). Plus, if you’re already used to a Playstation 3 controller (the $40 Dual Shock 3), using anything different can be confusing. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about it – you can use your existing PlayStation 3 controller with your Mac via Bluetooth.

Control4 Driver Editor

Drivers to support the Sony DualShock 3 PlayStation controller are already included in OS X Snow Leopard or later. All you have to do is pair it via Bluetooth, and you’re good to play any game that supports a Bluetooth gamepad. Github user Statico has posted detailed instructions to make it happen. Here’s how to set it up!

* Note: These instructions are specifically for OS X Snow Leopard, OS X Lion, and OS X Mountain Lion. The process is much simpler under OS X Mavericks and newer, and does not require many of the below steps, such as adding the controller to favorites.

  • Open Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Bluetooth and disable Bluetooth on Mac as well as any other nearby Macs or devices which will try to pair with and confuse the controller.
  • Reset PS3 controller by inserting paperclip into pinhole near L2 button.
  • Connect PS3 controller to Mac with USB cable.
  • Enable Bluetooth.
  • Press “PS” button for 1-2 seconds until the red lights flash.
  • Unplug USB cable.
  • Click the “+” icon in the preferences to open the Bluetooth Setup Assistant.
  • A window will appear asking you to enter an access code. Enter “0000” (without the quotes) and click “Accept.”
  • Close the Setup Assistant.
  • Click the “PLAYSTATION3 Controller” item in the Bluetooth list in the preferences. Then select “Add To Favorites” and then “Update Services” from the little gear icon menu.
  • Disable Bluetooth. Wait a second.
  • Enable Bluetooth. Wait another second.

I have tried this myself, and can verify that it works. The above screenshot actually came from my Mac. I hope you enjoy this tip – I certainly plan to do some PlayStation-style Mac gaming this weekend! Let us know in the comments if you find any especially great games that support a Bluetooth game pad!

If you need a controller, the DualShock 3 really is an excellent one, and is available on Amazon for around $40.

* Update (9/27/2013): After receiving numerous requests and comments about this not working, I’ve looked into the matter once more. I’ve successfully completed this, and used the PS3 controller in Steam Big Picture Mode under OS X 10.8.3, OS X 10.8.5, and the latest developer preview of OS X Mavericks. If using OS X 10.8.x, you NEED to add the controller to your “Favorites,” as specified in the above instructions, in order for it to work.

My co-editor Chris Hauk has also taken it upon himself to test the process, and was able to successfully use the PS3 controller to play LEGO Batman under OS X 10.8.5.

As an aside, the entire process seems to go much smoother, and work much more reliably, using OS X Mavericks. The above image demonstrates some of the differences in the Mavericks Bluetooth settings.

No guarantees that drivers will work for video, sound or even networks. Once hooked on MacOs I advise to actually buy a Mac since OS and hardware are optimized for each other. It seams like a lot of money to fork out for a Mac.
